Hand Wrought English Sterling Silver Tankard With Armorial Marked Jw Dated 1764
Hand Wrought English Sterling Silver Flagon Tankard Hallmarked by John Wirgman Date Marked 1764 with Floral Wreathed Armorial. Presented is a fantastic hand-hammered Colonial style footed tankard with a dome topped lid and a cut out thumb hallmarked in the lid and on the base for English Sterling silver made in 1764 with a makers script maker's mark of JW I believe to be for John Wirgman established in London in 1745. This great piece has a detailed engraved floral wreath framed armorial on the side and a dated engraved monogram on the bottom near hallmarks with a monogram of L. And a Dated dedication of Edgside 1746.
I have posted pictures of my research in the photos above. It is in stunning condition with no dents or dings, some slight nicks in the edges, a possible slight bend of thumb toward the dome of lid and some scratches from gentle use and care. This is an excellent example of the silver smiths' artistry and a great piece for display for the collector of fine art and antique silver.
