A very fine English cigarette case made by Jones & Compton, with 1919 Birmingham assay mark. It was made for the Indian market, featuring intricately chased all over arabesque vines amidst black enameled ground on both front and back. The inner scrolling border and the outer zigzag border are highlighted in red. Good hinges and strong clasp. 3-1/4" (8.2 cm) x 2-3/8" (6 cm). Best suited for hand-rolled cigarettes. Minor ding on the back, masked by the design. Enamel appears to have been touched up in areas. A few scattered enamel loss on the back.
