A Beautiful French Sterling Silver Vase, Mark Of Charles Forgelot, Circa 1910

A beautiful French silver Neo-classical style vase circa 1910. A beautiful and elegant antique French silver. 950 neo-classical style (or Louis VXI style) footed vase, with an applied band of entrelac, swags and a banded rim on upper rim and foot, circa 1910. The french Minerva silver mark can be seen in several places and although the diamond shaped maker's mark is slightly worn and we were able to identify it as that of Parisian silversmith Charle.
S Forgelot (1901- 1928) with the "C" for Charles followed by a portable forge within a horizontal diamond. Even though one can see a hole in the silver at the center underneath the foot of the vase, the hole does not go through and the vase is completely waterproof. The hole was probably made to hold a base in place at some time, which is now gone. The vase holds water and is in otherwise excellent age appropriate condition with only minor age related superficial scuffs.
French silver is often characterized by high quality and skilled workmanship, both ensured by particularly strict guild rules. Another element guaranteeing the high standard of French silver is the quality of the metal in itself. The required French silver standard had to be above 958 parts out of 1000. For comparison, in most European countries is generally 800/1000, while in Britain is usually 925/1000.

25 cm x 10.7 cm D. Very good original condition, with a small hole at the base, which does not go through to the water holding part of the vase, and with very minor wear and almost imperceptible surface scratches on the silver.
